The Scent of God
By Claudette on Apr 26, 2011 | In Claudette - Reaching Out
I was reading a Christian article recently, and within the article was a scripture out of Job 14:7-9.
At least there is hope for a tree:
If it is cut down, it will sprout again,
and its new shoots will not fail.
Its roots may grow old in the ground
and its stump die in the soil,
yet at the scent of water it will bud
and put forth shoots like a plant.
As I read on, it dawned on me “The scent of God”
Job wrote that just the scent of water will make that stump bud, and put forth shoots like a plant.
About two weeks ago my daughter said Mom it smells like rain. I turned to her and put my nose to the wind, and said your right it smells like rain, and that evening sure enough it began to rain.
As I’m writing I think of the sudden scent of a Barbecue or bakery baking fresh bread as you walk pass, it smells good.
My Question is:
Have you ever, or can you smell the scent of God in your life?
A scent is not a huge indicator is it, a scent can come and go very quickly, but the scent can give you direction. Example: When you smell something good your face will turn in that direction.
I was personally at a cross roads last month, and I was not able to make a decision that needed to be made. I took it before the Lord, and he directed me; I smelled His scent, it smells of Peace, Faithfulness, Joy, Gentleness, you know His fruits. The scent of the Lord, for me was like subtle steps to a greater direction.
The scent of the Lord will give you direction.
“Yet at the scent of water it will bud” wrote Job, new life. The scent of Lord will bring life to your dead situation. Whatever you’re facing He is life, and He can resurrect that dead thing. Lean into Him, take it before Him, trust Him and you will begin to smell the scent of the Lord.
Blessings,
Claudette
