Facing The Storm
By Claudette on Jan 7, 2009 | In Claudette - Reaching Out
In Northern Michigan, where I live, we have already seen our fair share of storms this winter. The snow and blowing snow have been what I call relentless, it seems that every week the weather man is telling us about another winter storm moving into the region.
In fact, the other day at the Post Office, I heard an elderly woman explain how she is already tired of winter and I agreed.
There are also other storms we encounter that can be just as destructive and obstructive as the weather kind, and they are called the storms of life. Even though I cannot name all of life's storms, here are a few common examples:
- The unrelenting family storms of bickering, instead of bonding.
- The job storms, I don't think a day passes without hearing of someone having been laid off, or a business shutting down.
- Then we hear of the health storms, a close friend of mine had eight deaths in her family alone, one of them being her sister.
Let's face it, there are storms and they seem to be increasing.
Jeremiah 25 : 32:
Look! Disaster is spreading from nation to nation a mighty storm is rising from the ends of the earth.
What happens when a storm arrives and your life is in chaos?
How do you navigate through it?
The answer is knowing the One who is known for calming the storm and the only One who can calm the storm - His name is Jesus Christ.
He is our hope in the midst of the storm. Jesus calmed the storm while in the boat with His disciples on their way to the other side, so I know He can calm your storm.
Mark 4 : 41:
Overcome with fear, they kept saying to one another, "Who is this man? Even the wind and the sea obey him!"
There is no one exempt from facing the storms of life, and unfortunately, many lack the peace to get through it, because they do not have an absolute relationship with Christ.
King David knew what it is was like to face the storms of this life, we can read it in the Psalms he wrote.
Psalms 86 NIV:
David’s Prayer during deep trouble.
1 Hear, O LORD, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.
2 Guard my life, for I am devoted to you.
You are my God; save your servant
who trusts in you.
3 Have mercy on me, O Lord,
for I call to you all day long.
4 Bring joy to your servant,
for to you, O Lord,
I lift up my soul.
5 You are forgiving and good, O Lord,
abounding in love to all who call to you.
6 Hear my prayer, O LORD;
listen to my cry for mercy.
7 In the day of my trouble I will call to you,
for you will answer me.
8 Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord;
no deeds can compare with yours.
9 All the nations you have made
will come and worship before you, O Lord;
they will bring glory to your name.
10 For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
you alone are God.
11 Teach me your way, O LORD,
and I will walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name.
12 I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart;
I will glorify your name forever.
13 For great is your love toward me;
you have delivered me from the depths of the grave.
14 The arrogant are attacking me, O God;
a band of ruthless men seeks my life—
men without regard for you.
15 But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
16 Turn to me and have mercy on me;
grant your strength to your servant
and save the son of your maidservant.
17 Give me a sign of your goodness,
that my enemies may see it and be put to shame,
for you, O LORD, have helped me and comforted me.
My prayer for you, is that you feel the peace of God over your life as you face these storms, for the storms will come and you will get through them if you abide in Him.
Remember, no evil plan or scheme of Man can ever pluck you from His hand.
Blessings,
