Opposite Days

Have you ever had an Opposite day?
An Opposite day can happen with family, friends, on the street, in your job, and even in ministry.
An Opposite Day begins, when you are in the middle of an explanation, and no matter what you say, you are wrong, and it is always followed by criticism.
While you are going through this Opposite day, you feel your reasoning is not wrong, and you think maybe that person cannot perceive what is being said, or further yet, maybe they are an individual who just likes to be opposite, needing to be in control - having it their way.
This situation is frustrating and angering, to find a person so opposite, doing you no good to try and explain, or reason with them - You will lose if you are wrong, and you will lose if you are right.
In some terminology, it is called ?A stubborn mule mentality,? but I prefer to call it ? An Opposite Day.
In the Bible, we find that Jesus was no stranger to Opposite days, He had the Pharisees hurling words of criticism at Him all the while He walked and taught the Disciples.
We can read about one of those Opposite days in:
Matthew 12 : 22-24 NIV:
Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. All the people were astonished and said, "Could this be the Son of David?"
But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "It is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons."
It is perplexing... the Pharisees had just witnessed one of Jesus' miracles, and still they could not see.
Jesus had just healed a man, and still He had to face an Opposite day, with hurling insults calling Him the devil.
Talk about a tough Opposite day, yet what is important, is the attitude Jesus kept through these encounters with opposite others.
Despite what people thought, said, or did, Jesus kept moving forward healing, delivering and being a servant unto God. Jesus did not stop along His journey trying to convince people that He was right.
On many occasions the Lord has showed me, that for the sake of not arguing, you do not have to always be right, nor have the last word. However, you do have to keep focused and moving forward, no matter how bad of an Opposite day you have had. There will always be those people you will not be able to please, or have sway your way.
Recently, I had someone tell me, ?I don?t agree with you politically or spiritually!? My answer in return was, ?That is okay, someday it will all come out in the wash, and I am not going to lose sleep over it.?
I said this, even though I wanted to try and convince this person by arguing the points, and finger-pointing the Scriptures.
However, there is no wisdom in dissension, when trying to win people for Christ. You have to pray for them, dust off your feet, and move ahead, because if you do not, they will drain your endurance towards the Mark.
We are in a race, and the finish line is gaining closer - more than ever.
Philippians 3 : 13-14 King James Version:
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Jesus, despite the Opposite days, moved forward toward the higher calling.
People can be backbiters, speaking things, or making up things that are not truth, and usually you find with surprise, that it comes from the one you least expect, but do not let their ways make you bitter or resent, for Jesus knows what it feels like, and He can turn your Opposite days around, if you will only take your burdens of pain to Him.
Matthew 11 : 28-30 New American Standard Bible:
Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. (Emphasis Added) For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
Jesus cares about your Opposite days, He hears the words spoken against you, and know this, that in keeping the right perspective, and not becoming opposite yourself, will keep your foot from slipping into an unmerciful snare of Opposite day mentality. You will be better, and become better, and your character will show the good fruit, as you stand and rise above it. Do not become a slave to unfruitful idle words. ...A point to Ponder
Proverbs 12 : 16 NIV sums it up this way:
A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks insult.
Jesus was a prudent man, and an excellent example for us.
I encourage you! Stay focused in your relationship with the Lord, and keep moving ahead through those Opposite days, for the Lord will mightily carry you through it.
May God Bless You,
