Everywhere you listen, the term Christian is used in such a liberal way today.
You hear the term Christian used to symbolize someone doing Good Works, you hear it used to define someone who attends a church, some use the term as a business promotional title, while others use it to spark controversy and anger, using it to address hot topic issues of the day.
In fact today, the term Christian is abused to the point of many people calling themselves Believers, instead of Christians.
My point of view is this:
The enemy (satan and his minions) have purposely destroyed the idea behind Christianity and the term Christian, for the purpose of deceiving and destroying the masses of unsaved people, and for corrupting the possibility of the lost and dying wanting to hear about Christ, from which the term Christianity is derived, and Who is the only way of Salvation and Heaven.
John 14 : 6:
6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
John 10 : 9 - 10:
9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
Basically, if you remove the fact of Jesus Christ and Righteous Living, making it into something bad or non-existent, you end up with no absolutes, which then in turn allows everything to go (secularism, paganism, wicked living, evil, and the like) – Antichrist.
The Dictionary defines Christian as:
1) of, pertaining to, believing in, or belonging to the religion based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.
2) exhibiting a spirit proper to a follower of Jesus Christ; Christlike.
The Bible defines a Christian as:
Ephesians 2 : 11 – 22:
11 Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called "uncircumcised" by those who call themselves "the circumcision" (that done in the body by the hands of men)— 12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.
14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15 by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, 16 and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. 17 He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.
19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
A True Christian is Christlike.
When we read about Jesus in the Bible, we can see how Believers are to be.
Jesus, while He was on Earth in flesh, was in constant communication with the Father, He took every opportunity available to go and pray, and to be in the presence of the Father. Jesus continually walked with the Father, and His communion with the Father never ceased.
Hebrews 5 : 7 - 10:
7 During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. 8 Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered 9 and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him 10 and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
Luke 6 : 12 - 13:
12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.
13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles.
Mark 1 : 35 - 37:
35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. 36 Simon and his companions went to look for him, 37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: "Everyone is looking for you!"
Our walk with Jesus should be the same. We must be on our hands and knees, with our faces to the ground, crying out whole-heartedly with our soul and spirit to Jesus. We must commune with Him, eat with Him, talk with Him, read with Him, continually walk with Him as Christians and Believers. Good Works and the like come from this relationship with Jesus, not the Good Works by itself.
I have seen people call themselves Christians and yet live worldly lives of sin, having no recognition of Jesus Christ in their lives whatsoever, in fact, when looking at them, you cannot tell them apart from the Secular world.
We as Believers need to return to God, we must be on our faces before Him, offering up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the only One who can save us – Jesus.
The term Christian is only a term, it is the whole-hearted relationship with Jesus that makes it what it is.
God Bless,
Christopher Moss
