Matthew 6:24 KJV
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Romans 1:28-32 NIV
28 Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
Romans 13:11-14 NIV
11 And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
In the Church today, we have a critical situation plaguing believers and Church leaders at all levels of ministry.
In the top two scriptures shown above, you cannot serve two masters, nor can you participate in any of the sins listed in Romans 1, but yet many are doing these things and attending church each Sunday or Saturday with unrepentant hearts, calling themselves Christians and not seeking the Lord to clean themselves of sin. We are supposed to be a people set apart in this world for Christ (a light unto the world); having a heart patterned after Jesus’ own heart and clean life.
When we do a particular sin long enough, God will turn us over to a reprobate mind so we no longer see the practiced sin as wrong, leading us into deeper sin and furthering our fall away from Jesus into calamity. Jesus tells us that no sin will go unpunished, if not repented from, and that calamity will befall us if we continue in the sinful way we have chosen - Calamity Comes!.
What we don’t realize is the affect it has on not just us, but the Church as a whole. If you are a minister serving Jesus, and yet keeping a foot in satan’s territory, your church flock, organization, or ministry will suffer for that sin, because sin introduces unclean spirits and calamity, creating an overall destructive effect, just as adultery in a marriage can cause all in the family to be affected painfully and maybe even destroyed spiritually. One thing to always remember is: People might not see you, the world might not see you, but Jesus always sees you and He will give the final judgment in the matter, so clean yourself of any sin and reprobate mindset, that way your actions will glorify God and you, your ministry, life, and family will be blessed.
One of the best examples in the Bible, with regards to sin in the camp, is found in Joshua 7.
In this passage of scripture, Joshua and all of Israel were defeating kings in order to take the land that God had promised them, and in the battle of Babylonia, Israel was commanded to not take any spoils from the victory, but when a member of the tribe of Judah did, God’s anger raged against Israel and they began to lose in battle. When Joshua cried out to the Lord before the Arc of the Covenant until evening, the Lord spoke and told Joshua that there was sin in the camp and Israel would not be able to have victory and continue, until the sin had been dealt with, so Joshua followed the instructions of God to call out the tribes by each family, and then by each man to narrow down the one man who disobeyed God. Achan from the tribe of Judah came forth admitting his guilt of taking valuable items from the Babylonian victory, and because of this, he and all his family were stoned to death and burned, along with all their belongings, in the Valley of Achor, with a reminder of a large pile of stones heaped upon Achan.
This message summed up: Turn from your hidden sin and keep calamity from coming to your life, ministry, and family.
2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
